Half-day kindergarten can be wonderful for little learners, but for working families it also creates one very practical question: who handles the other half of the day? The West Shore YMCA’s Half Day Kindergarten program for Cumberland Valley School District is designed to fill that exact gap, providing care for the part of the day when your child is not in kindergarten.
In other words, if your child attends an AM kindergarten class, the YMCA helps cover the hours before school and gets them there. If your child attends a PM kindergarten class, the YMCA picks them up after school and provides care through the evening. It’s a practical wraparound option that blends learning, play, and favorite YMCA programming into one smoother daily routine for families.
2025–26 Monthly Fees: YMCA Members: $720/month | Community Guests: $895/month. A $50 registration fee per child plus required deposits are due at registration.
Good to Know: A SACC wraparound program is available, if needed, at no additional cost. Child Care Works (CCW) is accepted, and Harrisburg Area YMCA financial assistance is available based on need.
Child Safety: At the Y, child safety and protection is the number one priority. Staff are trained in comprehensive child safety practices, and the program is designed to provide a safe, supportive environment for children in their care.
If your child needs full-day care or has moved beyond kindergarten, the YMCA also offers Child Development Centers and School Age Child Care programs.
