Ready to bribe your kids into outdoor adventure with the promise of secret codes and mystery prizes? GO Cumberland! is back for its third year of hiking hijinks and library-fueled literacy—and this year’s theme, “Choose an Adventure!”, is bringing big “Where’s Waldo meets nature trail” energy.
Between June 1 and August 15, your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to locate 15 hidden wooden “portals” scattered across parks in Cumberland County. Each post features an embossed plate to rub (yes, with crayons), a 4-digit code to log, and major explorer vibes.
📚 But that’s not all—Adventure Begins at Your Library too! Pair your hikes with themed books available at your favorite Cumberland County Library and track your reading and hiking progress with the Beanstack app for bonus bragging rights.
🎉 Every kid who finds at least 3 portals gets a prize. Find all 15 and you’ll earn all the digital badges and up to 3 prize entries in the final drawing.
There’s no GPS wizardry needed, just old-school clue-following, nature walks, and plenty of side-quests like rubbing mysterious symbols into a keepsake booklet. Think Dungeons & Dragons, but with sunblock, sneakers, and no one asking you to slay a troll.
Get started now! You’ll find everything from hike instructions to portal coordinates, rubbing sheets, FAQs, and crayon-friendly forms. Bonus: it’s all FREE, family-friendly, and screen-optional (unless you’re logging codes, which totally counts as educational screen time, thankyouverymuch).
✨ Log your hikes. Track your minutes. Earn digital badges. Win prizes. Confuse your dog. Lose your patience. Find it again at the park. It’s all part of the adventure.
