Disney Hits Get a Rocking Twist at Carlisle Theatre Tomorrow

There are family concerts where children sit quietly with their hands folded in their laps...and then there are concerts where everyone in the building already knows the words, your child has been rehearsing the soundtrack for years and you realize you have apparently been raising a tiny headliner.

In our house, Ridley is deeply, passionately committed to Maui and Olaf. He has not merely watched their movies; he has studied the material. He has learned the songs. He is prepared to belt them out with the confidence of a man who personally pulled the islands from the sea and also understands that winter is a good time to stay in and cuddle.

So let me be very clear: this show is not just for princesses. Although you can absolutely bet that River is going full princess nuts. There will be no subtle nod to royalty here. I expect maximum sparkle, dramatic wardrobe decisions and the general energy of someone who has been waiting her entire 4-year-old life for this exact invitation.

We will be there, and I cannot wait.

The Little Mermen & The Princess Pals, billed as the ultimate Disney tribute band, will take the stage at 7 p.m. Friday with live rock and pop versions of songs from Frozen, Moana, Encanto, The Lion King, Mary Poppins and more.

Not just for princesses...although ours is going ALL IN

This is Disney music with electric guitars, drums, powerhouse vocals, theatrical costumes and enough energy to turn familiar movie-night favorites into a full live concert. The touring ensemble includes Broadway-caliber performers, Powerhouse Princesses and Disney Divas, all built around the kind of epic sing-alongs that do not require anyone in your family to remember their indoor voice. This is fortunate, because Ridley’s Maui voice does not come with a volume dial.

The band’s setlist stretches across generations, which is part of the fun. Kids get the modern favorites currently ruling the family playlist. Parents get classics they can sing from memory while pretending they only know every word because the children watch those movies so often. Grandparents may find their favorites in the mix, too.

Dress-up clothes meet dancing shoes

This is exactly the sort of show that invites families to lean into the fun. Pull out the princess dress, add the mouse ears or simply arrive ready to sing. The goal is not hushed admiration from a velvet theatre seat. It is experiencing beloved music LIVE, surrounded by other families who also know precisely when the big chorus is coming.

A tribute band with some serious concert credentials

The Little Mermen have earned attention from outlets including ABC News, Broadway.com, BuzzFeed and Time Out. Legendary Disney composer Alan Menken has even offered the wonderfully concise endorsement: “Go Mermen!”

The group tours nationally and has appeared at major festivals alongside artists including Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett and Green Day. That experience shows in a production designed to feel like a real concert, because it is one. It just happens to be a concert where your 4-year-old may know the setlist better than you do.

So, yes, this is last-minute. But some of the best family memories begin with a text that says, “Get dressed. I found something fun for us to do tonight.” In our case, that will be followed by River assembling a royal wardrobe and Ridley warming up his Maui vocals while the rest of us reconsider every quiet car ride we have ever taken for granted.

Tomorrow, that something fun comes with princesses, snowmen, demigods, rock guitars and a theatre full of people who will absolutely understand when your child cannot resist singing along.
