Disclaimer: This listing is part of a hosted collaboration with Roundtop Mountain Resort. While the enthusiasm is 100% my own (and possibly fueled by coffee and nostalgia), my son Roland is being gifted an extra week of camp in exchange for this feature and our honest feedback. Stay tuned for our full updated review and an avalanche of photos coming your way in June—because if you think I wasn't going to document every muddy, paddleboard-filled moment, you clearly don’t know me yet.

Roundtop Summer Camp: Where I Found My Inner Paddleboarding Goddess (and My Kids Found Everything Else)
Explore Roundtop Summer Camps

This will be Roland’s fourth year at Roundtop’s Outdoor Adventure Summer Camp, and at this point, it’s less of a “camp” and more of a core memory factory. It’s the week he circles on the calendar and starts talking about as soon as we thaw out from winter. We’ve tried a lot of camps over the years, and I mean this with full mom-chest-thumping pride: Roundtop is the gold standard.

But let me tell you a secret. I didn’t just become a fan because of how much my son loved it. No. The real turning point? Family Day.

Family Day is my personal Super Bowl. It’s the one day they let us wild and wobbly parents into the action: canoeing, climbing, trying to keep up, and it’s where the real magic hits. You get to see the connections your kids have made, the skills they’ve learned, and the confidence that’s bloomed. You’re not just hearing about it secondhand; you’re living it alongside them.

And here’s the kicker: your kid becomes the teacher.

During Roland’s second summer, he taught me how to paddleboard. No joke - he coached me through it with more patience than I deserved and more joy than I expected. Watching his pride grow with every “you got it, Mom!” and seeing the pure delight on his face when I finally stood up without falling? That’s a parenting moment I’ll never forget.

I fell in love with paddleboarding that day. He fell in love with being able to share something he mastered. Now we own a kids kayak and three paddleboards. Because that’s what this camp does. It doesn’t just give your kids confidence; it gives your whole family a shared experience. A spark.

The counselors are incredible. The lake is gorgeous. The activities are endless. And when your child is kayaking, paint-balling, rock climbing, zip-lining, fire-building, archery-shooting, and water-war-waging all in a single week? You’re going to hear about it. All. Year. Long.

I send Roland back every summer not just because he loves it, but because he grows here. He comes home with muddy shoes, sun-kissed skin, a head full of stories, and a heart that’s a little braver than when he left.

If you’re even slightly considering summer camp this year, just go ahead and register now. Roundtop Summer Camps
